Our Story

Andrew worked in the mainstream education sector as a teacher for 10 years before making the transition to alternative education. He began as a tutor and mentor, working with young people who were not accessing full-time education, and saw first-hand the impact that alternative education provision can have where there are clear outcomes to work towards. Andrew moved into a management position as the company grew and was instrumental in the development of the company's academic and mentoring offer. Andrew has provided independent 1:1 tuition and PSHE to a large number of SEN children and has supported young people, who would otherwise have found education inaccessible to achieve qualifications and preparation for adulthood skills to enable them to access the next steps of education or employment. Andrew led the PSHE curriculum within a Hampshire school, and can deliver social and emotional support in a very sensitive and effective manner with a proven track record for approaching topics in a meaningful and informative way to build trust and perspective where it is required. Andrew currently represent the National Youth Advocacy Service as an Independent Advocate, working with vulnerable adults at the Priory Hospital, Southampton.

Beth is a qualified careers adviser and designated safeguarding lead. For 5 years, she was the director and safeguarding lead of a highly successful alternative education provider in Hampshire. Prior to this Beth worked as a careers advisor in a pupil referral unit and SEN Academy in Bournemouth. Beth has also recently been appointed a role working with the SEN team at a large Southampton based academy to support vulnerable young people and transition them back into their mainstream setting. This keeps her knowledge of schools processes and expectations current in an everchanging landscape. Furthermore, she managed an alternative provision in Dorset for a number of years. Beth's safeguarding knowledge and diligent approach is unparalleled. She also brings a uncommon ability to connect to a young person and imbue them with an enthusiasm about considering their future goals and pathways. She is a veracious consumer of CPD courses and if there is an update in any area pertinent to safeguarding young people, GDPR, safer-recruitment or alternative provision (to name a few), chances are, she knows it.

Our Vision

Best Foot Forward believe that alternative education should provide a short term intervention with the ultimate aim of supporting a young person back into mainstream education, a specialist setting, post-16 education, training or employment.

We know the challenges that young people face in both their personal and educational lives, and we know what strategies are effective in helping our young people meet those challenges head-on with the nurturing support of our mentors and tutors.

Our vision is one of an inclusive education provision that meets the needs of the young people we work with, demonstrates significant progress over time, and equips them to move on to the next stage with the skills, knowledge, and strategies required to live fulfilling lives.
